The author of this poem hopes they they brought to the mind some of the sensory perceptions that can be felt when someone simply witnesses nature through their poem, with a theme about the natural wonders that people may overlook entirely when they refrain from taking the time to simply exist in nature and experience all the little details they they may have otherwise missed.
Nature's Secret Wonders
The are wonders in this land,
Safely hidden in plain sight
"What wonders?" You may ask
Of this world of wondrous delight
"Just look around you" Mother Nature would reply,
Revealing her wise insight
"You will learn how plants of all kinds-
Strong or effete,
Weave their tendrils against
Erosion discrete."
"In a blink you will miss the
Hare family in their rapid retreat
Back to their burrow
On their hasty hare feet."
"Can you hear the droning buzz of the bee fleet
As they flit from dandy lions to milkweed
Forming pollen into golden honey
So sweet?"
"Do you see how stunning a rouse
of the Opossum's deceit
That predators flee
when their prey is deceased?!"
"Listen closely and you can hear the pink forlorn shrieks
Of the long lost songs of our
Carolina Parakeet."
"Will you watch how unmoving the gaze
Of the Wood Stork must be
Hunting for Crawdads in
The waters of Lake Mattamuskeet?"
"Or witness the Cicadas and their creed
As they unspool their secrets in chirps and trill
During evenings in the Summer heat."
How marvelous these untold wonders shall be,
When every being of all species and breed
Takes the time to stop, listen, and see
The bountiful wonders hidden from land to sea.
